Saint Lucia is a 238-square-mile (616 sq km) Windward island of the Caribbean. One of the most southerly Caribbean islands, St. Lucia is just south of Martinique with Barbados to its east. Saint Lucia is a mountainous island covered in green rain-forest and is home to the distinctive and easily recognizable Pitons (mountains), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now independent, the island has a long history with both the English and the French.
