Saint Lucia Travel Information

Saint Lucia – Travel Guide / Trip Planner

In order to relax and enjoy yourself on vacation, it’s best to know the basics of the island country you’re visiting.

The people of Saint Lucia speak English, with some residents also speaking ‘Saint Lucian Kweyol’ among themselves, a kind of Creole similar to French Patois.

The main currency is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar, although the US dollar is also widely accepted.

For those planning to rent a car, please remember to drive on the left-hand side of the road in Saint Lucia. That said, the island has a good public transit system – Private mini-vans can get you around cheaply.

Please note that the Saint Lucia electrical power system uses 220-240volt AC with European style outlets/plugs.  For North Americans, this means that power ‘converters’ for some appliances/electronics (ex Hair Dryer) are required, while electronics with universal power supplies will require power ‘adapters’ only. Due to potential power surges and brown-outs, surge suppressors are recommended in either case.

Saint Lucia falls in the Atlantic Time Zone, one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (for North Americans) and four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.

When is the best time to travel to Saint Lucia?

In terms of the weather, the best time to vacation in Saint Lucia may be in February, March or April as this is when there’s the lowest chance of rain.  The daily average temperatures still range comfortably from a low of 73˚ (23˚c) to a high of 86˚ (30˚c) degrees. It’s much hotter, more humid, and with a higher chance of rain later in the year.  The chance of a Tropical Storm or Hurricane hitting Saint Lucia is possible anytime between June and November, with September being the most risky.  It is prudent to watch the weather conditions a week or two in advance of your travel plans to ensure it is safe to travel late in the year.
