  • Mount Obama / Boggy Peak Trail
    • Intermediate
    • Just over 4 miles (6.6km) return, requiring a couple of hours
    • Partially steep, nice tropical rain-forest hike to the island’s tallest peak. Amazing views of the island, the Caribbean Sea and Montserrat on a clear day!

  • Carpenters Rock Trail (from Galleon Beach to Shirley Heights)
    • Easy
    • Approximately 2 mile (3km) return, requiring an hour or so (including time at Shirley Heights)
    • An interesting hike past Fort Charlotte up to Shirley Heights with great views of Freeman’s Bay, English Harbour and the Caribbean Sea.
  • Jones Valley Trail (From Freeman’s Bay to Shirley Heights)
    • Easy
    • Less than 2 miles (3km) partial loop, requiring an hour or so
    • An interesting hike, in partial shade, with optional parallel paths to Shirley Heights.
  • Lookout Trail (From Freeman’s Bay to Shirley Heights)
    • Easy / Intermediate (immediately steepness)
    • About 1 mile (1.5km) return, requiring less than an hour
    • A short hike up to Shirley Heights with great views of Freeman’s Bay and English Harbour.

  • Desmonds & Carpenters Trail Combo (From Galleon Beach to Shirley Heights)
    • Easy
    • Approximately 2.5 mile (4km) loop, requiring a couple of hours (including time at Shirley Heights)
    • A fun hike up to Shirley Heights with great views of Freeman’s Bay, English Harbour and the Caribbean Sea.

Notes regarding the Shirley Heights area:

  • Once you’re at Shirley Heights, you can choose any one of the trails above for your return – Mix it up a little.
  • From Shirley Heights, it’s another half mile (1km) return walk up the road to the Blockhouse, a historical site for another vantage point with great views south of the island.
  • On the coastal trail back to Freeman’s Bay, there’s also an optional short spur trail that leads to the Pillars of Hercules.

  • Middle Ground Trail / The Goat Track (From Pigeon Point Beach)
    • Easy / Intermediate
    • Approximately 2 mile (3km) return, requiring a couple of hours
    • Nice ridge trail with historical ruins and great views of Falmouth & English Harbours as well as Freeman’s Bay and the Pillars of Hercules. A spur trail from Fort Berkeley goes to Nelson’s Dockyard.
  • Monk’s Hill & Fort George
    • Easy / Intermediate
    • Just under 2 miles (3km) return, requiring about an hour
    • A seldom ventured and very interesting, partially steep hike of close to 650 feet (200m) in elevation change, with great views of the island
  • Other trails in the area include the Clarence House Trail as well a trail from Falmouth Harbour to Rendezvous Bay.

As for hiking Antigua’s other National Parks, there is at least one hiking trail in each of them:

Devil’s Bridge National Park (Indian Town Point)

  • Easy
  • No real trail – One can follow the gravel road next to the Veranda Resort to the end of the point. Requires about an hour return.
  • Great coastal area with views of the Atlantic Ocean, including the natural arch known as “The Devil’s Bridge”!

Green Castle Hill National Park

  • Easy
  • Less than a mile (2km) return, requiring an hour or so…
  • A nice walk with incredible view of the Megaliths, a natural geological formation of volcanic rock jutting out of the ground

Fort Barrington National Park

  • Easy
  • A short hike from Deep Bay Beach, requiring less than an hour
  • A nice walk with amazing views of the north end of the island, including the capital, St. John’s
