St. Kitts and Nevis – Travel Guide / Trip Planner
In order to relax and enjoy yourself on vacation, it’s best to know the basics of the island country you’re visiting.
The people of Saint Kitts and Nevis speak English.
The main currency is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar, although the US dollar is also widely accepted.
For those planning to rent a car, please remember to drive on the left-hand side of the road in St. Kitts and Nevis. St. Kitts and Nevis both have bus systems, although the routes taken by the private mini-vans are limited.
Please note that the islands’ electrical power system provides the locals with a 230 volt single phase supply, however a 110 volt AC supply is available in most hotels. This means that power ‘adapters’ or ‘converters’ for some appliances/electronics (ex Hair Dryer), and surge suppressors (to handle the occasional dirty power) may be required by North Americans – Best to check with the folks you’ll be staying with.
Saint Kitts and Nevis fall in the Atlantic Time Zone, one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (for North Americans) and four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.
When is the best time to travel to Saint Kitts and Nevis?
In terms of the weather, the best time to vacation to the islands may be around March and April, as this is when there’s the lowest chance of rain. The daily average temperatures still range comfortably from a low of 73˚ (23˚c) to a high of 84˚ (29˚c) degrees. It’s much hotter, more humid, and with a higher chance of rain later in the year. The chance of a Tropical Storm or Hurricane hitting Saint Kitts or Nevis is possible anytime between June and November, with August – October being the most risky. It is prudent to watch the weather conditions a week or two in advance of your travel plans to ensure it is safe to travel late in the year.
Please note that regular ferry service connects the two islands, which are approximately 2 miles (3 km) apart.
