Martinique Travel Information – Adventures & Things to Do

Martinique Travel is awesome. A Martinique vacation can include adventures like hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, fishing, horseback riding & more!

Martinique is nicely sandwiched between Dominica to the north and St. Lucia to the south – Pretty much the centre of the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles islands. The island is approximately 13 miles (21km) wide by 64 miles (103km) long, with a total coastline of 218 miles (351km). As an “over-seas region” of France, and the 3rd largest of the Windward Islands, Martinique may be best known for it’s many unique rhum distilleries as well as its fusion of Caribbean and French culture and cuisine. It should also be known that the island has one of the best highway and road systems in the West Indies! Of course, the “flower Island of the Caribbean” is also well known for its beautiful botanical gardens as well.

Martinique has a diverse terrain and natural environment. The northern end of Martinique is mountainous with lush rain-forests, while the southern part of the island is much drier with savanna-like brush, including cacti. Martinique also has a number of wetland areas along the coast, including ponds, lagoons and mangroves. This assorted habitat provides Martinique vacation-goers with a wide range of fun activities in the sea and on land. There’s plenty of hiking, canyoning, horseback riding and ATVing in the north, while the south is ideal for water sports like kayaking, kite-surfing and jet skiing. Of course, snorkeling and diving can be enjoyed at a number of reefs, as well as unique man-made attractions / underwater galleries.
