The island features a narrow fringing coral shelf close to most of the north coast.  In an effort to improve the health of Jamaica’s reefs and sea life, Marine Parks have been established at Montego Bay and Negril.  There are over a dozen dive sites off the shores of Montego Bay, featuring the Montego Bay Marine Park with it’s vibrant reefs and walls, colourful sponges and many caves as well as a shipwreck to explore.  You’re sure to see a wide variety of colourful coral, fish and more…

The best Jamaica diving sites near Montego Bay include (from west to east):

Airport Reef / Cavern

  • This popular dive site has a max depth of 40 feet (12m) and features a healthy reef with swim-through caverns along with rays as well as a variety of colourful corals and fish.

Spanish Anchor

  • This shallow reef dive site has a max depth of 50 feet (15m) and is very active with a wall and cavern to explore, as well as a wide variety of fish along with 2 sunken anchors

The Arch

  • This dive site, recommended for advanced divers, is close to shore with a max dive depth of 70 feet (21m) featuring a large wall and arch

Chub Reef  

  • This diverse dive site has a max depth of 50 feet (15m) and features a colourful coral reef along with a sandy bottom.  Marine life include gorgonians, sea-fans, sea cucumbers and anemones, as well as turtles, eels, rays, sharks, lobster, shrimp and crab along with a variety of colourful tropical fish.  Great for underwater photography.

Fish Pond

  • This popular dive site has a max depth of 35 feet (10m) and features a large rock formation with a wide variety of sea life including colourful sponges, coral, gorgonians, sea-fans, and anemones along with sea horses, star-fish, rays, lobsters and tropical fish

Nearby Fish Pond Alley has a max depth of 60 feet (18m) and features a reef with multiple caves along with a large variety of colourful fish.  Ideal for beginner divers.

Sunken Plane / The Wreck

  • This dive site, for advanced divers, has a max depth of 80 feet (24m) and features a sunken DC3 airplane fuselage that can be entered / explored.  The wreck is covered in coral, sponges and sea-fans and is frequented by a variety of fish, rays, eels, sharks, along with lobsters and star-fish.

Rose Hall Reef / Fairy Castle / Fairy Bridge

  • This shallow reef dive site has a max depth of 45 feet (14m) and is home to large pillar coral including a coral reef bridge.  Many tropical fish can be seen here.

Sergeant Major  

  • This shallow dive site has a max depth of 40 feet (12m) and is home to, you guessed it, sergeant major fish

Riu Garden

  • This diverse dive site has a max depth of 60 feet (18m) and features a wide variety of coral, sponges, gorgonians and sea-fans, where lobsters, crab, shrimp and star-fish call home.  You’ll also find a variety of fish, along with rays, sharks and eels here.

Riu Pitt

  • This shallow dive site has a max depth of 30 feet (9m) where the reef has many caves and swim-throughs to enjoy.  Statues have also been placed on the sandy bottom. You can see a variety of fish, along with rays, lobster and conch.

Widowmaker’s Cave

  • This awesome dive site is ideal for advanced divers to explore.  With a max depth of 90 feet (27m), this site features a tunnel like cave in a reef wall.  There are plenty of corals, sponges, gorgonians and sea-fans to see here, along with turtles and schools of fish.  Great for underwater photography.

Sea World

  • This colourful dive site has a max depth of 50 feet (15m) and is home to a gorgonian filled reef – Great for beginners and underwater photography.

Basket Reef

  • This large five site has a max depth of 100 feet (30m) and features a long reef wall covered in sponges and has many crevices and outcroppings.  Gorgonians, sea-fans and sea cucumbers, as well as turtles, fish and the occasional dolphin can be seen here.

Sting Ray city  

  • This dive site, recommended for experienced divers, has a max depth of 35 feet (10m) and as expected, is home to large numbers of rays.  The nearby reef has coral, sponges and sea-fans to see, along with fish, eels, sharks, crabs and shrimp.

The Point

  • This dive site, for advanced divers only, is a wall over a 100 feet (30m) deep and is home to corals and sponges along with fish, turtles, rays and sharks
