Snorkel the Waters of Grenada – Sites and Tour Operators

Grenada Snorkelling - Find the best spots & tour operators to snorkel Grenada. Enjoy Grenada’s Underwater Sculpture Park, reefs & more. Great Caribbean Snorkeling!

With beach accessible coral reefs and the world’s first underwater sculpture park, Grenada is a top Caribbean destination for snorkeling. With official Marine Parks protecting a number of snorkeling spots, it’s fun and easy to explore an underwater world full of unique sea life that you just can’t experience on land. Slip into the warm Caribbean sea and snorkel in warm clear waters from a handful of Grenada’s white sandy beaches, or take a short boat ride to experience underwater statues and coral reefs alive with colourful tropical fish and abundant marine life.

Grenada snorkeling also offers a unique visitor experience with it’s Underwater Sculpture Park, where over 50 statues can be explored in calm shallow waters.  This is a once in a lifetime experience to visit a place National Geographic once named in its “Top 25 Wonders of the World” – An opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

For more remote snorkeling, Carriacou’s Paradise Beach and nearby Sandy Island can be enjoyed after short boat rides from the main island.

Local Boat / Tour Operators who can get you in the water are listed below…

The best Grenada snorkeling sites on the south-west coast include:

(from north to south)

  • Moliniere Bay / Molinière-Beauséjour Marine Protected Area
    • Flamingo Bay – Healthy corals and sea fans along with a diversity of sea life including fish, rays, turtles and the Flamingo Tongue Snail, can be seen in just over 10 feet (3m) of water. This site is named after the snail, not the large pink bird ;).
    • Dragon Bay – Home to interesting volcanic rock formations and some of the best-conserved coral reefs in Grenada, this spot is brimming with marine life including colourful fish as well as octopus, eels, and lobsters.  This area is also known for spotting seahorses!

  • Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park – The park was designed by British Sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor, whose artwork can be seen around the world. Completed in 2006, the park’s displays are situated in easy to snorkel water about 15 feet (5m) below the surface. Popular statues include the Viccisitudes (a ring of children facing out & holding hands) and the Lost Correspondent (a man sitting at a desk in front of a typewriter).  About 50 feet (15m) away from the sculptures there’s a coral reef in less than 10 feet (3m) of water – so the area is filled with a variety of tropical fish and other marine life, including lobster.
  • Grand Anse Beach – Nicely protected from the wind, this popular and beautiful beach provides easy access to artificial reef ‘pyramids’, tropical fish as well as lobster and shrimp. The calm shallow waters make this a great spot for beginners. Facilities can be conveniently found right on the Beach.
  • Morne Rouge Beach / BBC Beach – Less crowded than Grand Anse Beach, this beach accessible snorkeling spot features clear calm water with colourful fish as well as eels, urchins and starfish on the sea’s sandy bottom. Great spot for beginners.
  • Magazine Beach / Aquarium Beach – This location features beach accessible reefs just 150 feet (45m) from shore, filled with amazing marine life.  Facilities can be conveniently found right on the stunningly beautiful beach.

  • Levera Beach – Situated within Levera National Park, there are beach accessible coral reefs and seagrasses alive with marine life. When the Atlantic Ocean is calm, the water is clear thus offering amazing snorkelling opportunities. The main attraction of this area may be the sea turtles that can be spotted between May and September.  Strong swimmers can venture out to Sugar Loaf island, less than 1000 feet (300m) away from the main island. Apparently, at low tide one can almost walk/wade over to the little island.  Notes: There is a small fee to enter the park.  While there are no facilities within the park, some can be found at nearby Bathway Beach.
  • Bathway Beach – White sand beach with a coral reef close to shore. Facilities can be conveniently found right on the beach.

  • Hog Island – Apparently, it is possible for snorkelers to reach a multitude of shipwrecks in the area (watch out for boats). The are covering Woburn Bay, Hog Island and Calivigny Island is a Marine Protected Area.

The best Grenada snorkeling sites on/around Carriacou:

  • The area encompassing L’Esterre Bay, including Paradise Beach and Sandy Island, is a Marine Protected Area!
  • Paradise Beach – A beach-accessible reef brimming with diverse marine life makes this an ideal Caribbean snorkeling spot. The calm shallow waters are also home to starfish, making this a great spot for beginners. Facilities can be conveniently found right on the Beach.
  • Sandy Island – A short boat ride from Carriacou, great snorkeling can be found in depths starting at 6 feet (2m).  The island features a healthy coral reef and unique boulders – The whole area is alive with corals, sponges and a wide variety of Caribbean fish as well as turtles.

  • Petite Martinique has some nice snorkelling spots as well.
  • Between Carriacou and the main island of Grenada, White Island and Saline Island are also known to have amazing coral reefs alive with marine life – Great for drift snorkelling.
