Overview of Carriacou’s Best Hiking Trails
Carriacou is rightfully known for its quiet beaches, great snorkeling and awesome sailing scene, however there are also some great hiking trails to explore on this amazing Grenada island!
The best Carriacou hiking trails include:
- North End Loop Trail (north Carriacou)
- Intermediate: Just under 6 miles (10km), with about 500 feet (150m) of elevation change, requiring over 2 hours to complete (how much more depends on the time spent at beaches and look-out points)
- Starting/ending on the western shore near Bogles, this amazing coastal (mostly road) hike includes stops at Anse La Roche Beach, Gun Point, Petit Carenage Beach, and Windward. Enjoy spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea as well as Petit Martinique and other Grenadine islands.
- High North Trail (north Carriacou)
- Easy-Intermediate: Just under 2 miles (3km), with over 850 feet (260m) of elevation change, requiring 2-3 hours (return)
- This rarely traveled, overgrown trail takes you to the highest peak on the island, providing rewarding panoramic views of Carriacou, as well as the sparkling blue sea and nearby Grenadine Islands.
- Limlair Nature Trail / Ningo Well (north Carriacou)
- Details TBD… Trail stops include the ruins of the island’s first well
- Dover Ruins Trail (north Carriacou) – Details TBD…
- Mount Royal to the Coast Loop Trail (south/central-east Carriacou)
- Easy-Intermediate: Just under 4 miles (7km), with about 700 feet (210m) of elevation change, requiring 2-3 hours to complete
- A combination of roads, dirt tracks and trails travel down to the coast, then turns north for a bit before heading back up to Mount Royal
- Note: A longer (7miles / 12km total) alternate loop route starts in Grand Bay (east coast Grenada), goes over to Mount Royal, down to the coast, then north along the coast back up to Grand Bay.
- Chapeau Carre (south/west Carriacou)
- Trail Details TBD… Spectacular views of the island and Caribbean Sea from the hilltop, more than 825 feet (250m) above sea level
There are also a number of road/track loop routes available in the south-end of Carriacou in the Argyle – Tyrell Bay – L’Esterre – and inland area.
