Hike Martinique – Trail Info, Guides and Tour Operators
For some of the Caribbean’s best hiking, visit Martinique‘s Parc Naturel Regional De La Martinique. The area offers a variety of nice relaxing walks as well as some more challenging, mountainous (volcano) hikes. Hiking is a great way to explore the natural beauty of the island, and many Martinique hiking trails provide amazing panoramic views of the island and the Caribbean Sea from hill-top look-outs.
The best Martinique hiking trails in the Parc Naturel Regional De La Martinique (inland from the east coast towns of Le Marigot and Saint-Marie) include:
- Crete du Cournan
- Easy: 3 hours, 4 miles (6km) (one way) with 1276 feet (390m) change in vertical
- This hilly forest trail crosses a bridge and provides great views of the valley from Morne Piquonne. Follows part of Saint-Cecile trail (below).
- Carabin to Morne Jacob
- Difficult: 4 hours, 5 miles (8km) (return) with a 1510 foot (460m) vertical
- Steep trail offers nice views to the east of the island. Can be combined with Saint-Cecile trail (below)
- Circuit de Sainte-Cecile Loop Trail
- Difficult: 4 hours, 5 mile (8.5km) (return) with a 1740 feet (530m) vertical
- Trail has excellent panoramic views. Beware of bog holes. Can be combined with Morne Jacob trail (above).
- Les Gorges de la Falaise
- Easy/Intermediate: Just over a 1 mile (2km) return
- Unique “river hike” through a rainforest gorge between high cliffs, with waterfalls and pools
- Trace des Jesuites
- Easy: 3 hours, 1.5 miles (2.5km) (one way) with a 985 feet (300m) vertical
- One of the most popular hikes to experience Martinique’s rainforest.
- Reculee au Morne Bellevue
- Easy/Intermediate: 3-4 hours, 6 miles (9.6km) (return) with a 1411 feet (430m) vertical
- Great views of the town & bay of Ste-Marie, as well as Morne Jacob
- Perou to Morne de L’Etang
- Easy: Half-hour, 1 mile (1km) (one way) with less than 650 feet (200m) of vertical change
- This trail has large mahogany trees and views of Saint Marie and the Caravelle peninsula. Optional side trail goes to Morne Bellevue.
