Saint Lucia’s SOLEIL Summer Festival 2020!
A handful of wonderful festivals from May through October, makes Saint Lucia’s summers awesome! Once again, you can dance to the rhythms of Jazz, Roots and Soul music events, as well as Carnivale’s colourful calypso beats. There’s also St. Lucia’s food, chocolate and rum galas – It doesn’t get much better than this! There’s also plenty of opportunities to celebrate Saint Lucia’s rich cultural, ethnic and artistic heritage.
Saint Lucia Carnival, Festivals & Event Calendar 2020:
- Independence Day is February 22 and this year Saint Lucia will celebrate the 41st Independence Anniversary. Each year Saint Lucians celebrate with activities held throughout the island.
- The St. Lucia Jazz Festival will take place from May 7 to May 9 in Castries. The Caribbean’s premier jazz festival includes intimate venues and public settings throughout Saint Lucia. This year’s stellar line-up includes Patti Labelle, Poppy Ajudha, Chick Corea and Shelea to name a few.
- St. Lucia Carnival takes place at two main venues, the Cruise Ship Terminal and Gros Islet from July 15 to July 22. The island of St Lucia turns into a massive celebration filled with elaborate costumes, intoxicating rhythms, parades and more. One of the most anticipated pre-carnival events is the ‘Color Me Red’ party, a large street party where people dress in Red. Popular Carnival events include:
- ‘J’ouvert’ – the official carnival opening street party
- Transcend Neon Night party
- Escape Fete, Aura, Duck Work Binge and Tribe Ignite.
- Fishermen’s Feast (Fête Pêche) happens June 29th. Celebrations and thanksgiving events include church services and various activities islandwide.
- Mercury Fest will take place from July 19 to 20 on Pigeon Island Beach. With its French-Caribbean focus, the annual event sees hundreds of vessels and thousands of visitors from neighbouring Martinique, Guadeloupe and St. Vincent.
- La Rose Flower Festival takes place on August 30th. The annual flower festival honours Saint Lucia’s rich history, culture and heritage. Locals dress in red and creating flamboyant displays made of roses.
- The Roots and Soul Festival will take place from August 21 to August 23 to enjoy musicians setting new trends in reggae, conscious hip-hop, Afro-punk and R&B. Events include free and paying concerts, in various parts of the island.
- Chocolate Heritage Month usually takes place in August. Saint Lucia’s chocolate heritage runs deep, her history is inextricably linked to the seeds of the cacao tree. And during the month of August, many of the island’s cocoa farms and resorts offer specialized packages, deals, tours and experiences to attract chocolate lovers.
- The Food & Rum Festival will take place from September 21 to 23. This is a gastronomic event featuring celebrity Chefs, rum inspired food experiences, entertainment, wine connoisseurs, rum fanatics and food critics from the Caribbean and internationally. There will be cooking demonstrations, rum tasting, wine tasting, celebrity chef dinners and community culinary experiences, along with a musical background
- The St. Lucia Arts and Heritage Festival takes place from October 16 to 18. Originating from Creole Day, this is a celebration of Saint Lucia’s diverse cultural, ethnic and artistic heritage, culminating with Jounen Kweyol. With musical, theatrical and other performances, seminars and lectures, a variety of culinary experiences, street parties, art exhibitions.
